IN THE JUNGLE
I want to go live in the jungle
Where time matters not much at all
No one to say, “Go here or be there.”
Especially by someone who’s tall
No clocks saying, “Tock, tick-tock, tick-tock”
To tell me I’m late for a thing
Don’t want to hear from anyone there
Not the lion, although he’s the king
If a monkey said, “Come visit me
In my tree I’ve got ice cream and pie.”
I think I would say, “I might have the time
If I can I’ll try to swing by.”
If his uncle said, “I’ve got some grubs.”
I might say, “I’ll be there real soon.”
What I really mean, to tell the truth
Can’t eat that, I’m a girl, you baboon
Don’t want to be bound by time at all
“Come have lunch,” said the dark green reptile
Polite as I can, to save my skin
I’d say, “After a while crocodile.”
This is my second poem using silly kids rhymes as the final line. It's a fun bit of work to work backwards from the last line.
